Calling all Newspaper Navigator users!
Have you used images from the Newspaper Navigator dataset or its accompanying visual search application? We’re currently looking for people to tell us about their experience with these resources, developed by 2020 Innovator in Residence Ben Lee.
Please contact our team at LC-Labs@loc.gov if this applies to you!
CCHC brings together staff from across the Library of Congress
The Library of Congress is a large organization–with over 3,000 employees! The LC Labs team is small, and one of our biggest advantages is being able to partner with staff from other parts of the institution.
We just wrapped up hosting two fantastic people on temporary assignments with the Computing Cultural Heritage in the Cloud team. Read more about how Tori Scheppele from the Prints and Photographs Division and Khadijah Camp from the Library Collections Service Group’s Employee Resources Management & Planning Team temporarily became “LC Labbers” in their interviews on the Signal Blog.
Datasets as Primary Sources, continued
Another team at the Library we’ve had the pleasure of working with is the Professional Learning and Outreach Initiatives group. In his recent blog post, Peter DeCraene, Einstein Distinguished Educator in Residence at the Library of Congress, continues to think about how LC datasets and other digital sources can be used by K-12 educators. Peter unpacks some of his initial thinking using the Rosa Parks dataset, consisting of transcriptions created by volunteers for the By the People program.
- Connecting Communities Digital Initiative (CCDI) in the News: in a recent interview with the Federal News Network, CCDI Program Director Marya McQuirter describes how the digital initiative creates opportunities for people to reimagine and remix the Library’s digital collections.
- CCDI Staff Interview with Adriana Marroquin: Adriana Marroquin has joined CCDI from the Library’s ISSN section. Check out this interview on the Of the People blog to find out more about them, their professional interests, and their impressive hobbies!
- “From the Vault” of the Library of Congress: the Library’s Rare Book Division has launched a mini-series of videos about items in their collection. These 15-minute segments feature curators and invited guests discussing everything from crystal-gazing experiences to modern art treasures. You can find them all on the Library of Congress website and on YouTube.
